GIPC Unveils Plan to Unlock Oti Region’s Economic Potential

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has launched a comprehensive regional investment mapping initiative aimed at positioning the Oti Region as a major destination for private sector investment, agribusiness, and infrastructure development.

The initiative seeks to catalogue the region’s key economic assets arable land, natural resources, and trade corridors, to attract investors into sectors such as agriculture, logistics, energy, and tourism. It forms part of the GIPC’s broader strategy to decentralize investment promotion and channel capital into emerging growth zones across Ghana.

Unlocking Local Potential

GIPC Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Simon Madjie, said the Centre was collaborating with local authorities, traditional leaders, and district assemblies to gather market intelligence and identify viable investment clusters. The goal, he said, is to position Oti as a frontier investment destination under Ghana’s “Big Push” infrastructure development agenda.

“The Oti Region has vast potential for growth and development. By mapping its opportunities and aligning them with national priorities, we can unlock sustainable investment inflows that create jobs and value for local communities,” Mr. Madjie said.

He noted that Oti’s rich agricultural base, proximity to trade routes, and availability of labor make it an ideal hub for agribusiness processing, renewable energy, and logistics operations serving both domestic and export markets.

Infrastructure and Energy to Drive Growth

Under the government’s Big Push initiative, investments in roads, power, and water infrastructure are being directed toward connecting agricultural and industrial zones to key markets. Mr. Madjie said these improvements would reduce transport costs, enhance competitiveness, and expand the region’s appeal to investors.

“Reliable energy and transport infrastructure are the foundation for industrialization. Oti’s integration into the national grid and improved road connectivity will position it as a strategic growth corridor,” he said.

He emphasized that the project would not only attract new investors but also empower local entrepreneurs to participate in the value chain through partnerships and joint ventures.

Creating a Conducive Investment Climate

The GIPC’s regional investment mapping framework aligns with Ghana’s long-term goal of achieving balanced development by directing capital beyond major urban centers. According to Mr. Madjie, the GIPC will develop tailored investment profiles for each district and set up investor facilitation desks to guide businesses through regulatory processes. Partnerships with local banks will also help improve access to capital for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The forum, jointly organized by the GIPC and the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC), brought together regional executives, business leaders, and civil society groups to discuss strategies for mobilizing investment in agro-processing, renewable energy, and ecotourism.

Local stakeholders hailed the initiative as a critical step toward transforming Oti into a key node of Ghana’s economic growth network and bridging regional development disparities.
