Women cocoa farmers celebrate contributions at BAWCOF Fourth Congress

The Brong Ahafo Women Cocoa Co-operative Farmers and Marketing Central Union (BAWCOF) has successfully held its fourth congress in Techiman, Bono East Region, under the inspiring theme “Nurturing a Woman, Cultivating Life.”

The event celebrated and acknowledged the significant contributions of female cocoa farmers across Ghana, highlighting their pivotal role in the nation’s cocoa industry.

Mrs Martha Addai, the President of BAWCOF said: “The cooperative’s members have collectively contributed over 4,455 metric tonnes of cocoa to the country’s national production, a testament to the dedication and hard work of these women in agriculture.”

On behalf of COCOBOD, Dr Adu Acheampong, the Executive Director of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED), commended BAWCOF for its efforts in empowering women through various initiatives, including training programmes, financial support, and marketing assistance aimed at enhancing their productivity and economic status.

He stressed that women cocoa farmers are crucial in driving forward Ghana’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to poverty reduction and women’s development, with a targeted timeline of 2030.

In addition to the congress activities, the event featured free health screening services provided by healthcare personnel from the Kumasi and Sefwi Debiso branches of the Cocoa Clinic.
