Air traffic workers to begin indefinite strike today

The nation’s airspace may soon face serious disruptions as members of the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) have announced an indefinite strike starting Thursday, 30 October 2025.

The group, made up of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP), says its members have endured more than 15 years of unfair treatment and poor working conditions under the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

In a statement signed by its president, David Annan Mensah, the association accused the GCAA management of mishandling their concerns about salaries, job placements and welfare.

They are also demanding the immediate removal of the Director of Human Resources, whom they blame for the long-standing challenges.

The association said several appeals for fairness and reform have been ignored, leaving members frustrated and unappreciated despite their key role in maintaining Ghana’s air navigation systems, radar and communication equipment that keep flights safe.

GhATSEA further accused some top GCAA officials of showing disrespect and indifference to their concerns, adding that such attitudes have worsened the situation.

The strike is expected to disrupt both domestic and international flights, as the professionals involved are responsible for maintaining the systems that ensure flight safety.

The association apologised to passengers and airline operators for the inconvenience but said the strike had become necessary to demand justice and better working conditions.

GhATSEA has called on government and relevant authorities to intervene quickly to prevent a total shutdown of Ghana’s airspace.
