Health Ministry calls emergency meeting over Record Systems breakdown

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the Ministry of Health will hold an emergency meeting with key stakeholders today, October 29, 2025, to address the recent nationwide breakdown of the Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRs) that disrupted service delivery across several hospitals and health facilities.
Speaking at a Stakeholders’ Conference organised by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in Accra, Mr Akandoh said the meeting will bring together relevant agencies, including the NHIA, the Ghana Health Service, and technology providers, to identify the root causes of the malfunction and chart a sustainable path forward.
“The engagement will focus on finding a lasting solution to the disruptions in our electronic health records systems and to ensure this never happens again,” he said.
The breakdown, which began earlier this month, temporarily crippled hospital operations and compelled some facilities to revert to manual record-keeping and cash payments, echoing the old ‘Cash and Carry’ system that Ghana’s health sector had long phased out.
