By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

Fidelity Bank Ghana, the nation’s largest privately-owned bank, has been adjudged Bank of the Year at the 8th Ghana Business Awards, held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra.

In a remarkable night of triumph, the bank achieved a historic treble, also winning Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and CEO of the Year for its Managing Director, Mr Julian Kingsley Opuni.

The awards reaffirm Fidelity Bank’s dominance as a leading force in Ghana’s banking and financial services industry.

The Bank of the Year recognition is a testament to Fidelity’s solid financial performance and prudent management over the past year. The bank posted a profit before tax of GHS1.21 billion in 2024, with customer deposits surging by 40 per cent to GHS17.65 billion, reflecting growing consumer confidence and loyalty.

The institution also maintained a capital adequacy ratio of 19.55 per cent, far exceeding regulatory minimums, while keeping non-performing loans below 10 per cent, underscoring its sound risk governance and operational efficiency.

The award for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility celebrates the bank’s transformative community interventions and long-term commitment to social impact. In 2024 alone, Fidelity Bank invested GHS5.74 million in CSR projects that directly benefited more than 26,000 Ghanaians.

Among its flagship initiatives are the Orange Impact Project, which supports educational infrastructure and access to learning resources, and a suite of health and environmental programmes designed to enhance quality of life and promote sustainability. The bank’s CSR approach focuses on building enduring value rather than one-off donations.

The CEO of the Year accolade for Mr Julian Kingsley Opuni highlights his visionary leadership in steering Fidelity Bank through economic headwinds while embedding sustainability and innovation into the bank’s strategy.

Under his leadership, the bank launched a three-year Climate Action Plan and the Greentech Innovation Challenge, positioning Fidelity as a pioneer in green finance and sustainable banking in Ghana.

Commenting on the awards, Esi Mills-Robertson, Director of Marketing at Fidelity Bank, expressed gratitude and renewed commitment to excellence.

“We are extremely honoured by this treble, which validates our collective dedication to our core values. Our financial strength, digital innovation, and commitment to sustainability continue to drive us to deliver unmatched value to customers and communities across Ghana,” she said.

The 8th Ghana Business Awards, organised by Globe Productions, honoured outstanding corporate excellence under the theme “Creative Economy Revolution through Innovation: Redefining Ghana’s GDP Landscape.”
