Kofi Adams denies asking Black Queens to boycott Egypt match over unpaid bonuses

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has denied reports that he advised the Black Queens to boycott their upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt over unpaid bonuses.
The Black Queens have reportedly refused to train, citing USD9,500 in unpaid bonuses each from the 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco.
Reports had claimed that Adams told the players they could proceed with the boycott and would be replaced once any potential CAF sanctions were resolved.
Mr Adams dismissed the allegations, describing them as false and misleading.
“Why would I say that?, he quizzed.
He added: “I’m shocked to see these stories. If they insist on boycotting, it will affect the nation, but the nation will recover. However, those involved in the boycott will forever carry that tag.”
The dispute puts Ghana’s WAFCON qualification hopes at risk. Ghana holds a 3-0 advantage from the first leg against Egypt, with the return fixture scheduled for October 28 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
