Black Stars technical team a priority ahead of 2026 World Cup – Randy Abbey

The Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr Randy Abbey, has outlined plans to further strengthen the senior national team’s technical structure as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) took decisive steps to reinforce the technical department, bringing in experienced figures such as Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei, and Gregory De Grauwe. Their contributions were instrumental as Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Dr Abbey reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to ensuring the team is fully prepared for next summer’s tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“In every major competition, whether it is AFCON or the World Cup, we always enhance the technical team. We review all aspects of the team’s support structure, from medical and technical staff to scouting and video analysis, to ensure the team is fully equipped to perform at its Abbey highest level,” Dr Abbey said.

He confirmed that Otto Addo remains head coach, with no immediate changes to the coaching staff expected.

However, he noted that the technical committee will continue to assess areas for improvement to refine the team’s tactical and operational performance.

“The goal is to have a better technical understanding and sharper focus as we approach the 2026 World Cup. We will be bringing in additional expertise to strengthen all areas, ensuring we are fully prepared for the challenges ahead,”  Dr Abbey added.
