Ghana affirms full support for Petroleum Hub project

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the implementation of the Petroleum Hub project, one of Ghana’s most ambitious initiatives in the energy sector.

During an official visit to the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) in Accra on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, as part of his familiarisation tour of agencies under the Ministry, Mr Jinapor emphasised the strategic importance of the PHDC and the Hub to Ghana’s energy future and overall economic transformation.

The Minister explained that the Corporation was created to attract significant investment across the petroleum value chain and assured both management and staff of the Ministry’s full support in achieving this mandate.

He urged the staff to maintain high professionalism, remain apolitical, and embrace innovation and dedication to make the Hub appealing to global investors.

Addressing concerns about feasibility and scalability, Mr Jinapor said further stakeholder engagements would be undertaken to resolve outstanding issues and ensure a smooth, transparent, and inclusive rollout.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of PHDC, Dr. Toni Aubynn, expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that the Minister’s assurances would inspire confidence among the staff.

Dr Aubynn described the Petroleum Hub project as both ambitious and transformative, drawing parallels with global models such as Singapore, the Netherlands, and Malaysia’s Petroleum Hub, which created over 80,000 jobs in its first phase.

He added that Ghana’s project could deliver similar benefits, especially for youth employment in Jomoro and surrounding areas.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy CEO for Operations and Technical, Mr. Onasis Rosely, pledged that tangible progress would be evident ahead of the next ministerial engagement.

Also present were the Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration, Ms Halimatu Sadia Abdulai, directors, and senior PHDC officials.

The Minister was joined by a delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, including Ing. Sulemana Abubakar, Acting Director for Power; Dr Yusif Sulemana, Technical Advisor and Richmond Rockson, Spokesperson and Director of Communication.
