GIPC CEO calls for stronger Ghana–Burkina trade ties

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, has underscored the need for stronger regional cooperation between Ghana and Burkina Faso to expand trade, attract investment and accelerate economic growth across West Africa.
Mr Madjie made the call during the maiden edition of the Invest in Burkina Faso Forum (FIIBF) held in Ouagadougou, where he joined a high-level Ghanaian trade and investment delegation led by Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
The forum, held under the theme “Structuring Investment for a Sovereign Burkina Faso”, brought together senior government officials, private sector leaders and international development partners from 44 countries.
The event provided a platform to explore investment prospects, foster business partnerships and deepen economic integration across the sub-region.
In his address, Mr Madjie commended the government of Burkina Faso and the forum’s organisers for what he described as a forward-looking initiative that will strengthen investor confidence and promote regional partnerships.
“This forum is an excellent opportunity to highlight Burkina Faso’s potential and attract international investors. I also see great value in Ghana and Burkina Faso working closely together to strengthen trade and investment across our borders. As neighbouring countries, we have a unique advantage to build mutually beneficial partnerships,” he said.
Mr Madjie emphasised that enhanced cooperation between Ghana and Burkina Faso could unlock new growth corridors in agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics and energy, sectors that are vital for industrialisation and sustainable development.
The GIPC CEO reiterated Ghana’s readiness to collaborate with its northern neighbour to create a more competitive regional investment climate that supports private sector expansion and inclusive economic progress.
The Invest in Burkina Faso Forum featured panel discussions, business exhibitions and networking sessions, culminating in engagements with the President of Burkina Faso. Participants deliberated on strategies to attract long-term investments, diversify regional economies and promote resilience amid global economic uncertainties.
Mr Madjie expressed optimism that the outcomes of the forum would lead to practical investment partnerships and cross-border initiatives that align with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
He also affirmed GIPC’s commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation that encourages trade facilitation, innovation and sustainable enterprise growth across West Africa.
