National Economic Dialogue Recommendations Now Driving Policy

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to evidence-based governance, stating that the recommendations from the recently held National Economic Dialogue are already being implemented and are now actively guiding economic policy decisions.

Addressing the nation on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, as part of a national broadcast marking his first 120 days in office, President Mahama said the dialogue, held within his government’s first 90 days, provided valuable insights from a wide range of stakeholders, including economists, industry leaders, labour groups, and civil society.

“We have taken the advice from the National Economic Dialogue seriously, and implementation is underway. These recommendations are shaping our economic direction and ensuring that our policies are responsive to the realities on the ground,” President Mahama stated.

He said the event was not a symbolic gesture but a cornerstone of his administration’s transparent and inclusive approach to governance. According to the President, the dialogue reinforced the urgent need for fiscal discipline, strategic investments, and private sector support to drive job creation and stabilize the economy.

Highlighting achievements within his first 120 days in office, Mahama pointed to the successful formation of what he described as “the leanest government in the Fourth Republic,” consisting of just 56 ministers and deputies. He also emphasized that a robust Code of Conduct for government appointees has been established to promote integrity and accountability in public service.

President Mahama noted that economic indicators were beginning to show positive trends, citing a downward trajectory in inflation and relative stability in the Ghanaian cedi.

“Our economy is beginning to show signs of recovery. Inflation is inching downwards, the cedi is relatively stable, and we are working hard to consolidate these gains,” he said.

He reassured Ghanaians of his administration’s resolve to stay the course of prudent macroeconomic management, responsible governance, and inclusive development.

“The steps we have taken in these first 120 days are just the beginning. We will continue to work tirelessly to rebuild trust, restore stability, and deliver prosperity for all,” the President concluded. The Mahama-led administration has positioned the outcomes of the economic dialogue as a blueprint for long-term reforms, with the President urging all Ghanaians to support the process and hold the government accountable.
