Ghana beats Comoros to qualify for fifth World Cup

The Black Stars of Ghana have secured a fifth World Cup appearance with a 1-0 victory over the Coelacanths of Comoros.

Mohammed Kudus’s 47th-minute tap-in was enough for the four-time African champions to secure a spot at the 32-team World Cup.

Fifty-year-old Otto Addo has become the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the Black Stars for two successive World Cups, the first being Qatar 2022 after narrowly defeating Nigeria.

Ghana approached the game with full focus, knowing that a win against Comoros would guarantee automatic qualification for the tournament, the biggest football competition in the world.

Meanwhile, Mali defeated Madagascar 4-1 at the March 26 Stadium, eliminating the Barea from World Cup contention.

Ghana’s win not only secured automatic qualification but also avenged back-to-back defeats to Comoros in their last two encounters.

The Coelacanths had beaten the Black Stars 3-2 at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and 1-0 in the World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana were among the standout teams in the African qualifiers, recording eight wins, one draw, and just one defeat in nine matches.
Although Comoros had defeated the Black Stars in previous meetings, the Islanders were poor on the night, showing little threat.
