Ex-policeman caught posing as active officer in Ashaiman

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

The Ashaiman District Court has convicted 54-year-old Kofi Boakye Frimpong, a dismissed police officer, for falsely representing himself as a police officer in active service.

Mr Frimpong, who was arraigned, pleaded guilty to falsely pretending to be a public officer and asked for leniency after admitting the offence.

The court deferred sentencing and remanded him into custody to reappear on 14 October 2025 for judgment.

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Henry Nartey Tetteh, the prosecutor, told the court that the complainants, police officers attached to the Zenu-Attadeka Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) arrested the accused after observing suspicious behaviour.

According to him, on 17 September 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., the complainants were on duty at the Zenu Star Fuel Station when they spotted Mr Frimpong fully dressed in a black tactical police uniform with a Chief Inspector’s rank badge.

The officers, suspecting that he was not a legitimate officer, engaged him in a brief conversation to verify his identity.

During the interaction, Mr Frimpong reportedly became nervous and attempted to flee by jumping onto a motorbike and instructing the rider to speed off.

The officers gave chase and managed to arrest him after a short pursuit, subsequently escorting him to the station for interrogation.

Investigations later revealed that Mr Frimpong was a dismissed Chief Inspector who had relocated to Ashaiman but continued to wear a police uniform and present himself as an officer in active service.

He was later charged with impersonation and arraigned before the court, where he admitted to the offence.
