Job adverts fall 16% in June – BoG Report

The number of jobs advertised in selected print and online media, a key indicator of labour demand in the economy, declined significantly in June 2025, according to the latest Monetary Policy Report by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The central bank’s July 2025 report revealed that 2,502 job adverts were captured in June, compared with 2,968 in the same month of 2024, representing a 15.7 per cent year-on-year contraction.
On a month-to-month basis, the labour market also showed weakness, as job adverts dipped by 18.4 per cent from 3,066 vacancies recorded in May 2025.
Despite this short-term decline, the cumulative figures for the first half of 2025 indicated a modest improvement.
A total of 18,604 jobs were advertised during the period, reflecting a 7.7 per cent increase compared with 17,278 vacancies in the first six months of 2024.
The report further noted developments in the formal private sector, where contributions to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) serve as a partial gauge of employment conditions.
Data showed that the number of private sector SSNIT contributors increased marginally by 2.1 per cent to 1,065,925 in May 2025, up from 1,044,111 recorded in the same period of 2024.
However, on a month-to-month basis, private sector employment levels appeared relatively stable, with contributors remaining largely unchanged from the 1,067,531 individuals registered in April 2025.
