Minister pledges cleaner, better-lit Accra by December 2025

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has vowed to transform Accra into a cleaner and better-lit city by December 2025.
Speaking at the launch of a GHS2 billion decentralisation fund, the Minister directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Greater Accra Region to prioritise sanitation and street lighting over the next three months.
“We went from Sakumono to Kasoa, then to Kaneshie, Circle and the Police Headquarters. The only places where streetlights were working were the Jubilee House and the Police Headquarters. At night, the streets are dark; in the day, the streets are dirty,” he bemoaned.
The Minister announced that a new strategy has been rolled out to ensure swift improvements.
“We have strategised on how best we can make the streets clean within these three months, and the streets must be brighter within the same period. Accountability is not going to be a choice. It is going to be mandatory and compulsory,” he added.
