CSA warns SHS graduates against irresponsible social media posts

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned recent Senior High School graduates against making indecent and irresponsible statements on social media.
The Authority says it has observed a disturbing trend where some graduates are sharing viral posts containing inappropriate declarations such as “we go scatter them” and boasts about “snatching people’s husbands.”
According to the CSA, while social media remains an important space for expression and networking, such behaviour can have long-term consequences.
The Authority reminded young people that their online activities leave a permanent digital footprint.
It noted that universities, scholarship boards and employers often review social media profiles during selection processes, and irresponsible content can seriously damage academic, career and professional prospects.
The CSA warned that reckless online behaviour can also expose young people to cyberbullying, harassment, grooming and other forms of digital exploitation.
In some cases, it may even breach Ghana’s cybercrime laws, including the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and the Electronic Communications Act.
The Authority urged graduates to adopt a more respectful and thoughtful approach to their online presence, encouraging them to use social media as a platform to showcase talents, promote entrepreneurship and access academic and professional opportunities.
“As Ghana continues its digital transformation, we must promote positive digital citizenship among the youth,” the CSA stressed.
It further pledged to work with the Ministry of Education, civil society organisations and community leaders to strengthen public education on safe and responsible online conduct.
