KMA orders traders to vacate Santasi-Ahodwo road for expansion

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has directed all traders, car dealers, mechanic shops, taxi operators, squatters and temporary structure owners along the Santasi to Ahodwo stretch to vacate the area immediately.
According to the Assembly, the evacuation is to pave the way for the construction of a dual carriage road from Santasi to the Ahodwo Roundabout, linking the Asokwa Interchange.
The project is being funded through a grant secured by the Government of Ghana from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
All affected persons are required to leave the designated area by 30 October 2025.
The KMA has further warned that from 1 November 2025, forced evictions will be carried out to clear any remaining businesses or structures along the stretch.
In a statement, the Assembly explained that the directive is necessary to ensure smooth execution of the project and appealed for full cooperation from the public.
“The Assembly urges all affected persons and the general public to comply fully with this directive to facilitate the timely completion of the project,” the statement stressed.
The KMA reaffirmed its commitment to completing the project within schedule, adding that timely cooperation from residents and businesses will be key.
“We want to avoid delays. Once the area is cleared, contractors will be able to work without interruption, and the entire metropolis will benefit from better roads,” the statement added.
