Chef Abbys gets presidential backing to promote Ghanaian cuisine globally

By Samuella Antwi

The Office of Diaspora Affairs under the Presidency has officially endorsed the culinary brand of celebrated Ghanaian chef, Abbys, in a partnership aimed at showcasing the country’s rich cuisine and strengthening cultural ties with the global diaspora.

Announced by the Director of the Office, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), the collaboration forms part of a broader strategy to use food as a tool for soft diplomacy, cultural preservation, and diaspora engagement.

The initiative will integrate Chef Abbys’ dynamic culinary projects into government-backed programmes, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a hub for authentic African gastronomy.

According to the Office, the partnership aligns with its operational theme, “Build Bridges & Break Barriers”, and supports national development priorities such as the 24-hour economy agenda and the Black Star Experience.

These initiatives seek to position the hospitality and creative industries as engines of youth employment, investment, and international collaboration.

A portion of the agreement reads: “As a token of our endorsement, the Office of Diaspora Affairs will work with your team to amplify the visibility of these impact initiatives across our global diaspora networks, encourage participation by both public and private sector partners, and provide protocol facilitation to ensure broad-based stakeholder engagement.”

Speaking after the announcement, Chef Abbys expressed gratitude for the endorsement, calling it a milestone in her mission to make Ghanaian cuisine a global cultural export.

“Food is more than sustenance. It is a story, a history, and a bridge that connects people across continents. With this partnership, we are telling Ghana’s story one plate at a time,” she said.

Chef Abbys, who has gained international recognition for her vibrant blend of gastronomy, storytelling, and culture, is widely acknowledged as one of Ghana’s foremost culinary ambassadors.

With over 1.1 million followers and 18.5 million likes on TikTok alone, she has redefined food content creation by blending heritage, community, and values into her work. Her rise has brought Ghanaian dishes such as waakye, banku with tilapia, and fufu with light soup into global conversations, sparking both nostalgia among the diaspora and curiosity among international audiences.
