UBA Ghana has announced the expansion of its prepaid card services, introducing a new feature that allows customers to load funds directly onto their UBA Prepaid Cards from their Mobile Money (MoMo) wallets.
The enhancement, which applies to all Ghana cedi-denominated prepaid cards issued by the bank, is designed to provide a faster, simpler, and more convenient way for customers to manage their spending.
With this development, users can instantly fund their prepaid cards without visiting a bank branch or ATM, enabling them to shop online, pay in-store, and access a wide range of Visa-enabled services globally.
Speaking on the launch of the new feature, Uzoechina Molokwu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Ghana, said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to customer-focused innovation.
“At UBA, we are committed to providing simple, secure, and innovative ways to banking. Introducing Mobile Money as a source of funding for the prepaid card creates flexibility, convenience, and control for the customer using their mobile device,” he explained.
According to UBA Ghana, customers who take advantage of this new feature will be able to load their prepaid cards from their MoMo wallets at any time and from anywhere.
They will also enjoy global access to online shopping, in-store payments, and subscription services using their UBA Prepaid Cards.
In addition, the service offers secure, cashless transactions that enable safer and more efficient financial management.
The new feature is available to all UBA Prepaid Card users in Ghana and requires no additional registration beyond holding an active MoMo wallet and a valid UBA Prepaid Card.
Management of the bank noted that this development aligns with UBA’s broader strategy to deepen financial inclusion while promoting digital banking adoption.
By integrating MoMo functionality, the bank aims to bridge the gap between traditional banking and digital finance, thereby expanding access to reliable financial services for a wider segment of the population.
The move also supports Ghana’s national agenda to reduce reliance on cash and promote a digital economy, in line with the cash-lite policy championed by the government and the Bank of Ghana. UBA Ghana emphasised that its prepaid card service is not only a convenient payment solution but also a vital tool for empowering individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses to participate in the global economy.
