Otto Addo not fit to lead Black Stars at World Cup – Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has stressed that Otto Addo must not be retained as head coach of the Black Stars should the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The 48-year-old, who was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year deal with an option of a further two years, came under pressure after failing to guide the senior national team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana finished bottom of their group with just three points from six matches.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach has revived Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, having guided the team to amass 19 points from eight matches, following a 1-1 draw against Chad and a 1-0 win over Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures.

Despite this progress, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu believes the former Ghana international is not good enough to lead the team at the Mundial scheduled for next year, even if they qualify.

“Even if Otto Addo qualifies us, he is not a good coach to lead us to the World Cup,” he told Wontumi FM.

Ghana will wrap up their qualification campaign against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October.
