Ian Perks appointed new CEO of Tullow Oil

Tullow Oil Plc has appointed Ian Perks as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 15 September 2025, marking a major leadership change for the Africa-focused independent oil and gas company.

Mr Perks, who brings more than 30 years of global upstream oil and gas experience, will also join the company’s Board of Directors. His appointment ends the interim leadership of Richard Miller, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who has been acting CEO since early 2025. Mr Miller will now return to his role as CFO.

Mr Perks has built a distinguished career across BG Group, Anadarko and Total, where he led some of the world’s largest and most complex energy projects.

At Anadarko, and later Total, he served as Senior Vice President for Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), working closely with the government to achieve a Final Investment Decision on the USD20 billion Mozambique LNG project.

Earlier, at BG Group, Mr Perks oversaw the USD10 billion Queensland Gas Company LNG project in Australia, ensuring delivery on time, within budget and to high safety standards.

He also served as President of BG Tunisia, where he achieved industry-leading safety performance while delivering the USD1 billion Hasdrubal gas project.

During his tenure in Trinidad and Tobago, BG doubled profits between 2002 and 2005 under his leadership. Mr Perks holds a BSc in Economics from Loughborough University.

Welcoming the appointment, Phuthuma Nhleko, Chairman of Tullow Oil Plc, said: “I am delighted to welcome Ian to Tullow as CEO. He brings a wealth of industry and African knowledge and experience and has a track record of successfully managing large multistakeholder businesses and projects.

“I would also like to thank Richard Miller for stepping into the role of Interim CEO and congratulate him on the considerable progress made during that time. I look forward to working with Ian and Richard.”

In his first remarks as CEO-designate, Mr Perks pledged to prioritise financial stability and long-term growth: “I am pleased to join Tullow at this pivotal time for the company. My near-term priority will be to work with Richard, the Tullow team and our stakeholders to put the company on a long-term sustainable financial footing.

“We will then have an opportunity to grow the company across Africa, leveraging our current assets and reputation on the continent to add value for our stakeholders.”
