Ghanaian hip-hop artist and songwriter Emmanuel Essuman Mensah, popularly known as Kingzkid, has shed light on the inspiration and vision behind his annual Amplified Concert, an initiative designed to empower and showcase Christian youth talents.
Speaking on Highway Drive on ZED FM 101.9, Kingzkid recounted how the idea for the concert was born during a spiritual retreat in 2016.
“I remember somewhere in 2016, I was on a retreat, trying to figure out what next to do or what I could add to what I was already doing. After the retreat, I got the idea of a festival that helps Christian youth to amplify their purpose and potential,” he shared.
Initially conceived as the Amplified Concert, the vision has since evolved into the Amplified Festival, providing a platform for young creatives in the Christian community to freely express their talents without discrimination.
“God gave me that idea for Amplified Festival. It’s a place where young creatives can come together to showcase their gifts and talents without any barriers,” Kingzkid explained.
Reflecting on the journey so far, Kingzkid described it as “amazing.” The first edition was held in 2016, followed by Amplify Nairobi in 2018, in partnership with Nairobi Baptist Church. He also acknowledged support from Lighthouse Church, friends, and family, noting their significant contributions to the event’s success.
The Amplified Virtual concert took place in 2019 at the Accra Mall, with another edition in 2020 before the two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival made a strong comeback in 2023, once again hosted at the Accra Mall, which Kingzkid described as “phenomenal.” According to the “I Got My Jesus on” hitmaker, the Amplified vision continues to inspire and encourage young people to amplify their God-given creativity and purpose.
