Ghana to reopen Embassy in Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced the reopening of Ghana’s Embassy in Iran, three months after it was temporarily shut down due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, the Ministry confirmed that operations at the Mission in Tehran will resume on Tuesday, 16 September 2025.
“With the improvement in the security situation in Iran, a decision has been taken for the Embassy to resume its operations,” the statement noted.
The Embassy was closed on 16 June 2025 following heightened conflict between Iran and Israel, which saw missile exchanges leading to property destruction and civilian casualties.
At the time, government said the closure was a precautionary measure to safeguard the lives of MFA staff and Ghanaian citizens in Iran.
The Ministry emphasised that while the Embassy will reopen, it will continue to closely track security developments in the region to ensure the safety of both staff and the Ghanaian community in Iran.
“Notwithstanding this decision, the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the safety of the staff working in the Embassy and the Ghanaian community in Iran is not compromised,” it added.
The MFA also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, pledging regular updates on any future developments.
