SHS placement to begin September 17

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that placement into senior high schools for the 2025 academic year will begin on 17 September.
Acting Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davies, said students are expected to report to their respective schools between 18 and 20 October.
He gave the assurance at a press briefing in Accra that the placement process would be conducted fairly, transparently and strictly based on merit.
“For those who may not be placed or who may not be part of the exercise for one reason or another, I encourage them to remain hopeful. They will be considered in the next placement round,” he said.
Prof Davies stated that candidates would be given the opportunity to review their entries, including gender, school codes and programme codes, from 1 to 8 September to minimise errors during school selection.
He added that the process would be conducted online via www.cssps.gov.gh and supported by an explainer video to guide parents and guardians through the review process ahead of the placement date.
To address post-placement concerns, the Ministry of Education and GES have set up call centres and resolution centres across all regions.
These centres, including district-level offices, are expected to be operational from 18 September.
Prof Davies cautioned the public against paying for school placement, stressing that the process is entirely free.
“The Ministry of Education and GES are not connected to any illegal placement business. Anyone who attempts to sell placement should be reported to law enforcement,” he warned.
Prof Davies revealed that 70 private schools have been added to the placement system to ease congestion and urged parents and candidates to consider selecting schools from the expanded list.
Prof Davies also advised students with issues regarding the release of their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results to contact the Council for resolution before the placement date.
WAEC, in a statement issued on 24 August, announced the release of provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination.
The results of 177 candidates were cancelled, while subject results of 718 candidates were cancelled and 1,240 withheld.
Additionally, the entire results of 93 candidates were withheld.
