Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has applauded his Leicester City teammates after bouncing back from their defeat to Preston North End with a crucial away victory over Charlton Athletic in the English Championship.

Issahaku’s sensational second-half strike proved decisive, handing the Foxes all three points at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The win marks Leicester’s second in three matches and their return to winning ways. For the Ghanaian international, it was his first goal of the season.

“Not the game we expected, but we stood tall to get the three points that were needed. Great effort from the lads together with the fans. Thanks to the Foxes for their amazing support. We stay together,” Issahaku posted on Instagram.

Leicester endured long spells of pressure as they defended their slender lead, while still managing to create decent chances at the other end.

Manager Marti Cifuentes was full of praise for Issahaku, expressing delight at the winger’s performance and energy.

“It was a fantastic goal. First of all, I am obviously happy to see Abdul laughing, smiling and enjoying his football again. That is good news for him and for the team.

“But secondly, we spoke at half-time about what we were missing in the first half. We were playing around in front of them, but we needed to be more aggressive, to attack in behind,” said Cifuentes.

He added: “These types of teams play very aggressively with man-to-man situations. They are so physical, so you need to set and then go, accelerate the game.”
