Bagre Dam spillage rescheduled to August 25

The management of SONABEL, Burkina Faso’s power-producing company, has rescheduled the controlled spillage of the Bagre Dam from Wednesday, 27 August to Monday, 25 August 2025, following a rapid rise in water levels.
The decision comes after the dam reached a filling capacity of 90.24 percent, with a recorded water level of 234.27 metres as of Saturday, 23 August.
The accelerated spillage aims to prevent overflow and mitigate potential flooding downstream.
A statement from Ghana’s Water Resources Commission, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, has urged communities along the White Volta and adjoining areas to take immediate precautions.
The Commission advised residents to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by local assemblies and relevant agencies to protect lives and property.
