CID, CSA crack down on cybercrime in Tema, 39 arrested

A joint operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has led to the arrest of 39 individuals at Adom City Estate, Tema Community 25, in what officials are describing as a major crackdown on cybercrime networks.

The suspects were picked up in the early hours of Thursday, 21 August, following weeks of intelligence-led surveillance.

Among those arrested were three minors and a woman alleged to be an escort linked to one of the suspected ringleaders.

According to law enforcement, the raid targeted a suspected cyber fraud hub believed to have been operating within the residential enclave.

Security officers stormed the premises under heavy guard, seizing digital devices, laptops and other materials for forensic analysis.

Authorities confirmed that all 39 suspects are in custody and will be transported to the CID Headquarters in Accra for profiling and further questioning.

Officials from the CSA stressed that the clampdown forms part of a broader national strategy to tackle online fraud, financial scams and other cyber-enabled crimes that continue to affect individuals and institutions across the country.

The Authority has also urged the public to remain vigilant against suspicious online activities, while the CID has assured that due process will be followed, particularly in handling the cases of the minors involved.
