Ashanti Culture on Full Display at One-Week Observance of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III
The rich traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom were on full display as mourners gathered to mark the one-week passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died last week.
The grounds at Manhyia Palace were filled with drumming, dancing, and the firing of musketry, symbolising the deep cultural heritage of the Ashanti people.
Security was tight, with major roads leading to the palace closed to traffic to ensure order and facilitate the influx of mourners.
By midday, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was expected to sit in state, receiving condolences from more than 70 paramount chiefs drawn from across the kingdom.
The observance is also attracting a high-profile delegation of dignitaries, including political leaders, religious figures, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The government delegation is being led by Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who is expected to join thousands of mourners in paying tribute to the late queen mother.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who served as the 14th Asantehemaa, is remembered as a pillar of tradition and a custodian of the Ashanti Kingdom’s cultural values.
