Asanteman to mark 1-week observance for Asantehemaa today

Asanteman is ready for the one-week observance of the passing of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who joined her ancestors on 7 August 2025, at the age of 98.

The late queen, elder sister of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the current Asantehene, reigned for eight years before her passing.

The Manhyia Palace, the official seat of the Asante Kingdom, has announced that the one-week observance will be held today, 21 August 2025.

During a visit to the palace on Sunday, it was observed that the palace grounds had been draped in dark colours to reflect the mourning period. Trees, especially those in front of the palace, were decorated in black cloth as a sign of grief.

Palace sources revealed that preparations for the solemn event are complete, with tight security arrangements in place ahead of today’s ceremony.
A number of high-profile dignitaries are expected to join the Asante Kingdom in mourning the departed queen.
