Combine good nutrition with active living — Dietitian advises Ghanaians

Dietitian Sarah Salomey Kalley Okine has urged Ghanaians to combine healthy eating with an active lifestyle, stressing that nutrition alone is not enough to maintain good health.
Her advice comes as lifestyle-related health issues rise in Ghana, especially among urban residents and office workers.
Health experts continue to promote preventive care through balanced nutrition and regular physical activity to combat the risks of sedentary behavior.
Speaking on Zed Wellness Link on Sunday, June 1, 2025, Ms. Okine emphasized the importance of pairing good nutrition with healthy habits to achieve lasting results.
“I often say that good nutrition must go hand-in-hand with a healthy lifestyle. Eating well alone isn’t enough, without the right habits, it won’t be effective. You need both to maintain hormonal balance and keep your body strong,” she explained.
The dietitian also highlighted staying active and hydrated, encouraging small, manageable lifestyle changes to improve overall well-being.
“If you normally take the elevator from the 1st to the 5th floor, consider switching to the stairs from the 5th to the 10th. The next day, go a little further. Step by step, you’ll eventually be able to climb all 10 floors without needing the elevator,” she added.
