OSP probes 67 corruption cases including 17 high-profile

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that 67 corruption and corruption-related cases are under full investigation, with 17 identified as some of the most explosive and high-profile scandals in recent years.

In its half-year report released recently, the OSP stated that the investigations cut across government ministries, state-owned enterprises and private entities, targeting alleged malfeasance that has long dominated public debate.

The move signals what the office describes as a strategic effort to dismantle entrenched corruption networks and restore public trust in Ghana’s institutions.

Led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, the OSP has widened its probe to include issues such as land acquisitions, illegal mining, questionable multi-million-dollar contracts and alleged irregularities in the government’s payroll system.

According to the report, the era of impunity may be nearing an end, with more individuals expected to face prosecution and possible jail terms.

Among the headline cases is the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), where investigators are probing suspected corruption between 2020 and 2024, particularly transactions linked to the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal.

Companies under scrutiny include GIG Minerals Limited, RCM Properties, Energy & Resources Company Limited, Goldstrom Ghana Limited and BH Minerals Limited.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited has also come under the spotlight, with the OSP examining operations and contractual arrangements from 2020 to 2024.

These investigations, the report suggests, could expose financial improprieties that have significant implications for public resources and governance.

Beyond specific entities, the OSP emphasised that its mandate goes beyond prosecuting individuals. It aims to dismantle systemic corruption by targeting the networks that sustain illicit activities in both the public and private sectors.
