Empress Gifty crowned Artiste of the Year at Ghana Music Awards USA

Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty made history on Saturday night by clinching the coveted Artiste of the Year title at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards USA, beating some of the biggest names in the industry.
The ceremony, held at ACX1 Studios in Atlantic City, New Jersey, brought together a vibrant mix of Ghanaian music talents from both the United States and Ghana.
The night was filled with dazzling performances, emotional tributes and joyous celebrations of Ghanaian musical excellence abroad.
Empress Gifty’s win came as a surprise to some, as she outshone heavyweight contenders including Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, King Promise, KiDi, Diana Hamilton and Black Sherif (Blacko), all of whom were nominated in the highly competitive category.
With tears in her eyes and her husband, Hopeson Adorye, by her side, the emotional gospel star accepted the award, dedicating it to her late mother and those who believed in her journey.
“I want to thank God, the media and Kuami Eugene for supporting me with my hit song Watch Me,” she said.
The crowd roared with applause as the gospel diva soaked in the moment, marking a major milestone in her career.
Fans quickly took to social media to celebrate the win, praising her resilience and calling her a “trailblazer for gospel music”.
The event also paid tribute to late Highlife greats Dada KD and Daddy Lumba, while Gyedu-Blay Ambolley received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Performances by Kofi Kinaata, comedian OB Amponsah and Empress Gifty herself lit up the stage, making it a night to remember.
Other winners included US-based acts such as Jay Hover, C-Ben and Kay Rockz, who were recognised for their contributions to Ghanaian music in the diaspora.
