President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for official visits to Japan and Singapore, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s bilateral relations, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, and deepening cooperation on key development priorities.

In Japan, President Mahama will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address during a plenary session themed “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment.”

According to a statement released by the Office of the Presidency, he will also headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, where he will spotlight Ghana’s investment landscape and outline the country’s Resetting Ghana agenda.

The President is expected to hold high-level bilateral meetings with key Japanese officials, including the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and senior executives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

These discussions will centre on trade, investment, infrastructure development and technical cooperation.

According to the statement, the second leg of the tour will take President Mahama to Singapore, where he will engage both government and private sector leaders during a three-day working visit.

His itinerary in Singapore includes a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

He will also participate in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum and deliver an address at a separate investment forum to promote Ghana’s economic reforms and explore strategic partnerships with Singaporean investors.

The statement indicated that the visits aim to attract foreign investment, expand market access for Ghanaian goods and services, and foster collaboration in areas such as infrastructure, finance, technology and human capital development.
