You are irreplaceable – Omane Boamah’s children pay tribute

It was a scene of raw emotion and solemn reflection at Christ the King Parish in Accra on Thursday, 14 August, as the children of the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, paid a stirring tribute to their father, whose life was tragically cut short in the 6 August military helicopter crash.

“Daddy, why did you leave us so soon? Never in a million years did we think this day would come. Who will we call when the world feels too heavy? Who will have the answers? You are irreplaceable, Edwardo,” they said.

Their words painted a portrait of a man whose presence was both powerful and tender. The children of the late Defence Minister described him as a pillar of love and wisdom, whose unwavering support shaped their values and dreams.

“Your love was steady, your love was gentle, and it was the warmth that filled our home,” they shared.

Even while away on official duty, Dr Boamah never missed a call, never forgot a birthday, and never failed to remind his children to “dream big but stay grounded.”

To him, success was measured not by accolades but by the lives uplifted.

“You taught us that compassion is strength, truth is a duty, and service to others is the highest honour,” they said.

Dr Omane Boamah was one of eight individuals who perished in the tragic crash, which also claimed the lives of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate and Deputy Director-General of NADMO; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The fallen crew members were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

A state funeral for the victims will be held today, 15 August, at Black Star Square in Accra.

However, Dr Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed have already been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
