Thank you for loving me – Omane Boamah’s wife pays tribute to him

Mrs Rita Omane Boamah, widow of the late Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has paid tribute to her husband at the state funeral held for all eight Ghanaians who perished in the helicopter crash on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.
In a tribute read on her behalf, Mrs Omane Boamah shared tender memories of their first encounter, a chance meeting aboard a medical school bus, despite not being a medical student herself.
That moment began a love story marked by laughter, late-night strolls, and unwavering companionship.
Their journey, she said, was one of joy and devotion, now painfully interrupted by the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including her beloved husband.
Mrs. Omane Boamah also recalled a haunting question her husband often asked: “Abena Rita, what will you do when I am not around?”
She continued: “I never answered you, and till today I don’t have an answer.”
According to her, Dr. Omane Boamah was a “loving and perfect father,” who balanced his career as a doctor and politician with family life.
“Despite your busy schedule, you either bathed the children every morning or dressed them while I bathed them. You were their favourite teacher, knowing their syllabus back to back and making time for both study and play,” Mrs Omane Boamah stated.
She added: “I will, with God’s help, take care of mummy and our three kids, knowing you will be looking down on us from the heavens.”
“Kofi B, thank you for loving me, thank you for loving the children, thank you for loving my family and all who came to know you. Rest in power, my love.”
