Makola clinic to get major upgrade

By: Rebecca Okine

The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has announced plans to redevelop the Makola Government Clinic into a modern four-storey facility aimed at improving healthcare delivery for traders and market women in the Central Business District.

Speaking during a working visit to inspect ongoing and abandoned projects across the city, Mr Allotey said the project forms part of the government’s commitment to upgrading public health infrastructure to meet the growing needs of residents and businesses in the metropolis.

“I have observed that the facility is not in a good state,” he said, adding that the redeveloped clinic would be fully equipped to provide quality healthcare services, including modern diagnostic and treatment facilities.

The MCE noted that the redevelopment would also support better management of patient flow and enhance overall service delivery in one of Accra’s busiest commercial areas.

The Administrative Manager of the Makola Government Clinic, Natasha N. A. Addo, welcomed the initiative, saying it would significantly improve service delivery and create a better working environment for staff. She emphasised that a modern facility would also boost public confidence and encourage more residents and traders to access healthcare services.

During the inspection, Mr Allotey also visited other public facilities, including the Jamestown abattoir and Accra Sempe School, to assess the state of ongoing and abandoned projects and ensure that resources allocated for public infrastructure were being effectively utilised.
