Empress Gifty alleges sabotage behind UK deportation ordeal

Rumours of sabotage within Ghana’s creative arts industry appear far from over, as celebrated gospel musician Empress Gifty has added her voice to the growing list of entertainers claiming to have been undermined by colleagues.

In a live TikTok video shared on social media on 12 August 2025, the ‘Watch Me’ hitmaker recounted a humiliating experience during her first trip to the United Kingdom, which she alleged was caused by a fellow industry player.

According to Empress Gifty, the unnamed colleague had invited her to the UK.

However, upon her arrival, the person refused to answer her calls, ultimately leading to her deportation.

“When I got to the airport, the immigration officers asked who I was going to visit. I mentioned the name, and they told me to call her. I called several times, but she didn’t pick up. The immigration officers even tried from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., yet she still didn’t answer,” she narrated.

The award-winning singer said she was taken to a holding room under constant surveillance before contacting her ex-husband, who reached out to then-Ghanaian Foreign Minister Hannah Tetteh.

“She called the immigration officers, asking them to let me stay in my hotel room. But they refused, saying until the lady picked up, I wouldn’t be allowed entry,” the musician recalled.

When all efforts failed, her ex-husband requested that she be returned to Ghana.

“The immigration officer destroyed my two-year visa, which I had obtained only a week earlier,” she said.

Empress Gifty added that her recent visit to the UK was deliberate, aimed at proving a point and silencing those who mocked her over the incident.
