NCA suspends 9 radio stations over regulatory breaches

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across Ghana for multiple breaches of broadcasting regulations.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 12, the Authority said the suspension followed the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by former President John Dramani Mahama, during which defaulting stations were expected to rectify their regulatory violations.
According to the NCA, six of the stations “failed, refused, and neglected” to take any corrective action during the amnesty window.
While a few non-compliant stations made efforts to address the breaches, three others were cited for unresolved violations, including the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites.
The NCA emphasised that all affected stations were operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance, in direct violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).
The suspended stations include Donplus Multimedia Limited in Ho (105.9), Dreams Ghana Media Limited in New Abirem (104.9), Jam Multimedia Limited in Kintampo (101.3), Jewel Group Limited in Duayaw Nkwanta (102.7), Kandai Star Community Radio in Kpandai (107.3), Unique Gateway Communication Limited, and Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited’s outlets in Accra (95.9), Kumasi (101.3), and Takoradi (101.3).
The NCA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing broadcasting laws and maintaining order on Ghana’s airwaves, adding that it will continue to monitor stations to ensure full compliance with all authorisation and regulatory requirements.
