GHS confirms 18 new Mpox cases, total now 346

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 18 new cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 346 as of August 7, 2025.

No new deaths have been reported, with the national fatality figure remaining at one.

This update reflects a slightly slower rise in cases compared to July 30, when 20 new infections were recorded alongside the country’s first death from the disease.

Health officials say Mpox continues to spread mainly through close physical contact with infected individuals. Symptoms include fever, skin rashes, and swollen lymph nodes.

The GHS has urged the public to avoid close contact with symptomatic persons, wash hands frequently with soap under running water, wear masks when caring for the sick, and steer clear of animals that may carry the virus.

Anyone experiencing symptoms is advised to seek medical care promptly.

Mpox, previously known as Monkeypox, is a viral infection that poses heightened risks to children, pregnant women, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.

The GHS says it is working with regional health directorates to trace contacts, intensify public awareness campaigns, and ensure effective case management as part of its ongoing response to the outbreak.
