Forson Amankwah eyes 2026 World Cup appearance with Black Stars

Norwich City midfielder Forson Amankwah says he is targeting a spot at the 2026 World Cup with the Black Stars.

Ghana is on the verge of securing qualification for the tournament, which is scheduled to be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico next year.

The Black Stars enhanced their chances following back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar in Matchday 5 and 6 games earlier this March.

With four matches remaining in the qualifiers, Amankwah, who made his debut for the senior national team a year ago, is aiming to play in the Mundial next year.

“Definitely, I’m dreaming of going to the World Cup because if you’re a football player, especially a young player, playing in the World Cup says a lot,” he told Flashscore.

“I think it’s really good to be part of it, because I want to be part, so I need to do everything to be part of the squad,” he added.

Ghana will face Chad and Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 games in September before wrapping up their qualifiers in October against Comoros and the Central African Republic.

The four-time African champions currently sit at the top of Group I with 15 points.
