Assemblies of God urges support for helicopter crash victims’ families

Assemblies of God Ghana has urged the government to establish dedicated support schemes and award packages for the dependents of the eight national figures who perished in last week’s military helicopter crash.

The church described the initiative as a fitting tribute to the “supreme sacrifice” made by the late Minister of Defense, Dr. Omane Boamah; the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Mutarla Mohamed; and six other servicemen who died in the line of duty.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Ernest Birikorang, Assemblies of God Ghana said the support should be “commensurate with the supreme sacrifice they have paid, and the distinctive service they have rendered to the state.”

“This gesture will go a long way to underline the point that Ghana, our beloved nation, is indeed worth dying for,” the statement added.

The church expressed solidarity with President John Dramani Mahama, the government, the families, and the Ghana Armed Forces in mourning the loss.

It also called for the unity fostered by the tragedy to be sustained across political, social, ethnic, and religious divides.

Assemblies of God, of which President Mahama is a member, disclosed that it had dedicated part of its First Pastors and Spouses Prayer Retreat to pray for the bereaved families and for the nation.
