Police nab man selling stolen GH₵400,000 truck in Akim Oda

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Emmanuel Sarpong, in connection with the theft of a Hyundai Mighty Truck valued at GHS400,000.

A statement issued by the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended on August 3, 2025, and is currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.

The truck, bearing registration number GR-6552-24, was reported stolen on July 30, 2025, from Baakoniaba, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality. Acting on intelligence, police traced the stolen vehicle to Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had removed the truck’s original registration plates and was using it for commercial purposes until it broke down.

According to the police, an undercover operation conducted by officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) led to the suspect’s arrest.

Emmanuel Sarpong was picked up after showing up at a meeting where he allegedly intended to collect payment for the vehicle he had offered for sale.

“The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation when he turned up to receive payment for the stolen truck,” the statement noted.

Police say the vehicle has since been recovered and returned to Sunyani, while investigations continue to determine if additional persons were involved in the alleged theft. The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to fighting crime and encouraged citizens to continue volunteering information to support police efforts.
