OMCs urged to drive 24-our economy

The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has called on Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to take full advantage of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative to expand operations and drive national productivity.

He made the remarks during the rebranding ceremony of Engen Ghana Limited to Misa Energy Ghana Ltd., held in Accra.

According to the Deputy Minister, the 24-hour economy policy presents a strategic opportunity for OMCs to reposition themselves as essential enablers in Ghana’s push for round-the-clock economic activity.

He noted that by extending service hours and diversifying their offerings, OMCs can play a pivotal role in energizing multiple sectors of the economy.

“We cannot discuss the 24-hour economy without acknowledging the critical role of OMCs, since they are the engine room for the last-mile delivery of petroleum products,” Mr. Gyan-Mensah said.

He further explained that OMCs are not merely fuel retailers but also essential economic facilitators that ensure uninterrupted operations across key sectors such as healthcare, transport, agro-processing, retail, and hospitality.

“OMCs serve as the bridge between national bulk supply systems and end-users. Within the 24-hour economy framework, they are instrumental in ensuring that industries, service providers, and transport operators can function seamlessly throughout the day and night, 365 days a year,” he stated.

The Deputy Minister encouraged OMCs to align with the government’s broader policy objectives by investing in infrastructure, digital systems, and workforce development to meet the demands of a continuous service economy.

Rebranding Milestone

The event also marked a transformation for the company formerly known as Engen Ghana. Now operating as Misa Energy Ghana Ltd., the rebranding signals a new strategic direction focused on innovation, customer experience, and enhanced service delivery.

Mr. Gyan-Mensah commended Misa Energy for its forward-looking vision and readiness to adapt to the evolving energy landscape.

“Misa Energy’s rebranding reflects not only a change in name, but also a renewed commitment to growth, innovation, and excellence in service delivery,” he added.
