Man United bid €85m for Leipzig star Sesko

Manchester United has submitted a bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with the overall package potentially rising to €85 million (£73.8 million).

The offer includes a guaranteed payment of €75 million (£65.2 million).

The Red Devils have yet to receive a response but believe the bid reflects a fair valuation for the 22-year-old Slovenian forward, who is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle United are also in pursuit of Sesko and have made a bid in the region of €80 million (£69.5 million) as negotiations with Leipzig continue.

United’s offer is seen as significant, especially amid earlier reports suggesting the club was unwilling to make a formal move without assurance that Sesko was open to joining them.

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to let Rasmus Højlund leave the club to make room for Sesko in their squad.

Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig and, standing at 6 feet 5 inches, would bring a strong physical presence to United’s attack.

Club sources say a deal for Sesko remains financially possible, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s warning earlier this year that Manchester United risked going bust by Christmas without major cost-cutting measures.

Payment structures for the summer acquisitions of Matheus Cunha (from Wolves) and Bryan Mbeumo (from Brentford), totaling £130 million, were reportedly arranged in a favorable manner to ease the financial burden.
