By Solomon Nartey Tetteh

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially handed over 17 gold bars, valued at USD1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) in a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.

The gold bars were seized by officers of NACOC’s Upper East Regional Command at the Paga border post.

They intercepted the precious metal from two Burkinabè nationals attempting to smuggle it out of Ghana.

The suspects have been charged with offenses related to the transportation and unauthorized dealing in gold.

Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, reaffirmed the Ministry’s strong support for GoldBod and praised the agency for promoting responsible and regulated gold management across the country.

Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod (CEO), Sammy Gyamfi, expressed appreciation to the Director-General of NACOC for the successful interception and transfer of the gold.

He also stressed the need for continued collaboration among security agencies to combat the growing threat of illegal gold trade. The handover ceremony was witnessed by Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Doreen Annan; Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey and other senior officials from NACOC and GoldBod.
