By Lukman MUMIN

Defender Samba O’neil has been named the new captain of Asante Kotoko following changes to the leadership of the playing body.

The Congolese centre-back, who was named the club’s Player of the Season, will be assisted by Henry Ansu and Lord Amoah as first and second vice-captains, respectively.

O’neil impressed in his first campaign with the club, helping the Porcupine Warriors to FA Cup and President’s Cup success.

He made his debut against Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup, where he produced a Man of the Match performance as the Reds defeated their sworn rivals.

The towering defender’s first major task will be leading the Ghanaian giants to South Africa for the Toyota Cup game against Kaizer Chiefs on July 26, 2025.

Meanwhile, his deputies, Ansu and Amoah, will be expected to provide him with the necessary support as the Reds eye success next season.

The FA Cup winners have already begun pre-season preparations ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, during which they will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.
