Kelvin Yeboah wins $1000 Man of the Match award at Minnesota United

By Lukman MUMIN

Ghanaian-Italian forward Kelvin Yeboah was voted Man of the Match following his standout performance in Minnesota United’s 4-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer (MLS) last Saturday.

Yeboah scored as Minnesota dominated at Allianz Field to move into second place in the Western Conference standings.

The former Sturm Graz striker earned the most fan votes and received a $1,000 prize, which will be donated to the Kelvin Yeboah Foundation.

“You voted, and Kelvin Yeboah is tonight’s Bell Bank’s Man of the Match! That means a $1,000 donation to an organization of Kelvin’s choice: Voices for Racial Justice,” the club announced in a post.

The 25-year-old nephew of Ghanaian legend Anthony Yeboah netted his seventh goal of the campaign, scoring Minnesota’s second in the emphatic win.

The Italy youth international rose high to head in Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi’s cross in the 42nd minute, doubling the lead after the Nigerian-Canadian had opened the scoring in the second minute.

Just before halftime, Anthony Markanich added a third goal for Minnesota. After the break, Bruno Wilson pulled one back for San Jose, but Joseph Rosales struck late to restore Minnesota’s three-goal cushion as the red-hot team extended their strong run of form.

The victory lifts Minnesota United above the Vancouver Whitecaps into second place, just two points behind leaders San Diego FC.
