NHIA releases additional ¢267.7m to clear claims

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed an additional GHS267.67 million to health facilities nationwide, clearing outstanding claims up to April 2025.
This latest payment brings the total released by the Authority over the past seven months to more than GHS1.5 billion.
In a statement signed by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, the Authority said the disbursement is part of its ongoing efforts to sustain the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and provide consistent financial support to healthcare providers.
“National Health Insurance is pleased to announce the payment of an additional GHS267.67 million to cover claims for health facilities nationwide,” the statement said.
The breakdown shows that public health facilities received GHS120.7 million (45 percent of the total), private facilities were allocated GHS100.2 million (37 percent), and mission health facilities received GHS46.7 million (17 percent).
The NHIA’s prompt payment regime, introduced earlier this year, is designed to ensure healthcare providers remain well resourced and operate without financial setbacks.
The initiative is also part of the Authority’s broader objective to maintain a debt free status in 2025.
The NHIA reiterated its commitment to timely reimbursements to healthcare providers vital for uninterrupted medical service delivery across the country. These payments also align with the Authority’s mandate to finance healthcare services listed in the NHIS Benefit Package, which covers over 95 percent of disease conditions and includes more than 550 medicines.
