COCOBOD launches cocoa tracker to tackle child labor, deforestation

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), in collaboration with the European Union, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and other industry stakeholders, has launched the Ghana Cocoa Monitor—a digital platform aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainability in the cocoa sector.
The new platform will improve coordination across the cocoa value chain and support efforts to address key challenges such as child labor, deforestation, and climate resilience.
It will serve as a central hub for tracking progress and sharing real time, credible data among agencies and stakeholders.
Designed to enhance collaboration and streamline information flow, the Ghana Cocoa Monitor is expected to reduce duplication of efforts, strengthen policy coherence, and align the country’s cocoa strategy with international sustainability standards.
With the EU Deforestation Regulation and other global trade rules now demanding greater traceability and environmental responsibility, the Cocoa Monitor will help Ghana meet these requirements and maintain access to premium markets.
The launch comes amid growing global scrutiny of cocoa supply chains, particularly regarding environmental damage and human rights issues. With more than 800,000 cocoa farmers nationwide, the platform is expected to boost livelihoods, productivity, and inclusive growth.
Stakeholders believe it will help identify gaps in implementation, measure sustainability outcomes, and guide evidence based interventions.
COCOBOD says the monitor will also support the long term transformation of Ghana’s cocoa economy by promoting regulatory compliance and modernizing the sector.
