Online recruitment scam — Police warn public

The Ghana Police Service is cautioning the public to beware of fraudulent recruitment messages circulating on social media, calling the claims entirely false and misleading

In an official statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Service stated unequivocally that no recruitment exercise is currently underway.

“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to information circulating on various social media platforms regarding an ongoing recruitment exercise. The Police Administration wishes to categorically state that this information is false,” the statement said.

The Police cautioned that any future recruitment exercise will be communicated only through the Service’s official channels, including its official website, verified social media platforms, and national newspapers.

“The Service has not announced any new recruitment exercise. Any recruitment exercise will be duly advertised through the official communication channels of the Service,” the statement reiterated.

The public was urged not to fall victim to scammers who promise job placements in exchange for money.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard such fraudulent claims and desist from engaging with individuals or groups who promise recruitment opportunities in exchange for money.”

On enforcement, the Ghana Police Service said investigations are already underway and assured the public that individuals found culpable in such scams will be arrested and prosecuted.

“The Ghana Police Service assures the public that it is actively investigating these fraudulent activities, and persons found to be involved in such illegal schemes will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement emphasized.

The Police also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“The public is encouraged to report any persons or groups engaged in these fraudulent activities to the nearest police station,” the statement added.
