The President of the Ghana Fintech and Payments Association, Martin Kwame Awagah, has called on businesses to embrace financial technology solutions as essential tools for growth, innovation, and inclusion.
Speaking during a panel discussion in Accra on the theme ‘How Fintech is Changing the Business Landscape,’ Mr. Awagah said Fintech has evolved from being a mere buzzword to a critical force shaping how individuals live, transact, and access financial services, particularly in developing economies like Ghana.
“Fintech is no longer just a trendy term. It is a major force driving economic activity, expanding financial inclusion, and enabling business transformation,” he said.
Mr. Awagah stressed that businesses that invest in Fintech tools stand a better chance of improving operational efficiency, expanding their reach, especially to underserved populations and staying competitive in the digital economy.
He observed that the Fintech space continues to open new pathways for innovation across sectors such as banking, e-commerce, health, and education.
Mr. Awagah underscored the critical role that Africa’s youthful and tech-savvy population is playing in shaping the Fintech revolution.
“So currently in Ghana, and across Africa, we have a thriving youthful population. These are people who form a significant portion of the continent’s demographic and are extremely tech-savvy,” he noted.
Mr. Awagah explained that today’s young consumers are not interested in traditional, lengthy processes like queuing in banks. Instead, they demand digital services that offer speed, convenience, and trust.
“They want things easy and fast and that is exactly what Fintechs bring to the fore: speed, trust, and confidence,” he stated.
He argued that for Fintech to maintain its growth trajectory, businesses and financial institutions must align their services with the evolving needs of young people who are driving digital adoption.
Mr. Awagah made these remarks during a panel session at the Citi Business Festival 2025.
